This Swatharanyeswarar Temple is situated in the village of Thiruvenkadu in Nagapattinam district. This is one of the 276 Devara Paadal Petra Shiva Sthalams and 11th Shiva Sthalam on the northern bank of the river Cauvery in Chozha Nadu . This is one of 51 Sakthi peedam , this is one of the 6 Shiva Sthalams on the banks of river Cauvery that are considered to be equal in significance with Kasi . Budha (Mercury) is believed to signify a person’s speaking skills. There are many shrines inside the temple. The temple has three presiding deities namely Swetharanya, Aghora and Nataraja who are believed to govern Budha. The temple has three water bodies namely Surya, Chandra and Agni. Swetharanyeswarar Temple is the fourth Navagraha sthalam of the 9 Navagraha Temples in Thiruvenkadu, Tamil Nadu. It is the abode of Bhudhan or Bhudha (planet Mercury).
